🎬 Sitaare Zameen Par Review ⭐ : No Shooting Star

Sabka Apna Apna Normal Hota Hai… But This One’s Too Normal!

Aamir Khan returns with a heart in the right place, but the magic? Sadly missing.

Basketball coach Gulshan is fired from his job and arrested for drunk driving. As a corrective punishment, he is forced to a community service project of coaching a basket team of specially abled basketball players – which he abhors. The movie is a journey of how Gulshan learns to work with the specially abled team and lead them to national championship grand finale. In the process, he overcomes his ego and emotional challenges and eventually, transforms and redeems himself.

The movie is an AI template at play:
    🏀 A disgraced coach.
🧠 A team of neurodivergent kids.
    🏆 A championship to win.
It should’ve been an emotional slam dunk… but the story barely bounces.

While Aamir delivers a solid performance and Genelia is a delightful surprise, it’s the real stars — the neurodivergent actors — who light up the screen with honesty and charm in the debut movie. 👏 If only their characters were given more meat, more moments.

But alas — the script feels rushed, emotions feel half-baked, and the climax underwhelms. The soul-stirring poignancy of Taare Zameen Par? Nowhere in sight. Maa song has brought tears to Indians like no other song.

Actually, Comparisons with Taare Zameen Par is unwarranted — that’s like comparing industrial junk food with Michelin meals just because they both use potatoes.

🎯 Intent is noble. Execution is not.
Props to Aamir for promoting theatre-going and skipping OTT riches (INR 120Cr, no less!). Direct release coming up on YouTube. But this gamble needed a stronger script to truly score. Revolutionary strategy riding a weak product!

Aamir is trying too hard to please. He is clearly not trusting his instincts and guts. 3 Idiots, PK, Taare Zameen Par, Lagaan – all are work of different league! The socio political realities are on his mind and so are the recent failures. Time to reinvent, redefine and restart!

Sitaare Zameen Par Verdict: Watch it for the effort, the message, and the brilliance of the kids. Just don’t expect the magic of Aamir’s earlier classics!

  • Laal Singh Chaddha Review: Cautious, Boring & Tiring

Laal Singh Chaddha Review: Cautious, Boring & Tiring

Laal Singh Chaddha Review: Cautious, Boring & Tiring

If there is one person who can put cinematic excellence above commercial interests, pursue the creative vision relentlessly and surpass the self-fuelled expectations, it is Aamir Khan! He has a Midas Touch and beautifully ignores the social media trolling machinery. The decision to remake Forrest Gump in Indian context was a courageous bet and an open invitation to eternal comparisons – but Aamir Khan is known to take the bulls by horn. Alas, Laal Singh Chaddha fails and Aamir Khan makes him fail – ironic!

Laal Singh Chaddha is an official adaptation of the award winning iconic Tom Hanks starrer Forrest Gump. Laal is a simpleton who shares his story of life to the fellow passengers on a train journey from Pathankot to Chandigarh. He describes his childhood, his feisty and inspiring mother, his lova saga with Rupa, his friendships and his loneliness. He is a witness to the most extraordinary events of the Indian history – 1983 World Cup Win, Operation Blue Star, Indira Gandhi Assassination, Sikh Riots, L K Advani’s Rath Yatra, Mandal Commission, Babri Masjid Demolition, Bombay Bomb Blasts, Sush’s Miss Universe Crowning, Kargil War, Modi Sarkaar etc. He accidentally inspires a superstar’s signature move and creates India’s biggest hosiery brand.

Aamir Khan is a known perfectionist but he comes across more caricaturish than innocent, likeable and charming Laal. The movie is all about Aamir Khan and Laal oversimplifies. Kareena shines in a meatier role with shades of Geet and Mahi. Mona Singh, Manav Vij and Naga Chaitanya provide excellent support. Manav Vij and Laal Singh track is very interesting and easily the home of movie’s wisdom.

The music and cinematography are awesome. ‘Phir Na Aisi Raat Aayegi’ song is a class act – soulful rendition by Arijit that describes the pain of unrequited love! Tur Kalleyan, Kahani are other nice songs.

The screenplay is totally loyal to the original screenplay. There was an excellent opportunity to be imaginative – but the movie does not explore any difficult terrain or offer anything new.

Box of Chocolate becomes Box of Gol Gappa

    Garden Bench becomes Train Seat

Shrimp Business becomes Chaddi Banian Business

    Vietnam War becomes Kargil War

The India and world of 2022 is so much different from 1994 – more complex, highly political and less tolerant. The cinema audience and their sensibilities have changed as well – spoilt by OTT platforms, best of World and South Indian cinema and all graduating from Whatsapp University. The choice of remaking Forrest Gump should be seen in this context.

Forrest Gump was better. Tom Hanks was better.

    Watch the original Forrest Gump!

  • Can Aamir Khan Change India?

    Can Aamir Khan Change India?

Trust Aamir Khan to break the mould and challenge the environment. The Marketing Genius with a Midas Touch has once again attempted to change the game. This time he wants India and Indians to change. A formidable challenge – but even if he changes one Indian, it is worth the effort. Atleast he is being a part of change, rather than being an arm-chair spectator.

Aamir Khan’s foray in National Television ‘Satyameve Jayate‘ has all the right ingredients. A national topic. A problem that is stopping India from becoming a Shining India. The opening topic was the issue of female foeticide. The topic was given complete justice and all perspectives of the issue were covered. The ‘Call to Action’ was the petition and the donation. The huge awareness to the cause is a great service as well.

Aamir’s marketing mind ensured that all the Star Properties and Doodarshan ensure that India does not miss the message. His collaborations with Airtel, Axis Bank and Reliance Foundation are the best advertisements for the power of marketing. Donate money to the causes via Airtel SMS. Donate Money via Online or Branch Banking at Axis Bank. Reliance Foundation matches the donations of the Indians.

The idea is great. The causes will be relevant to growing India. He is doing the right thing. Can he bring Jasmine Revolution to India? Can he change the indifferent Indians? Can he change the social thinking? He is using all his prowess, popularity and intelligence Good ideas need good luck and good support. Let us support him in our own way – time, effort, support and money!

  • Business of Bollywood @ IIMA

There is no business like showbusiness!

Indian film industry has been getting lot of academic attention recently. Institutions like IIMs, S P Jain have already introduced case studies on movies like Chak De India.

Finally, the film industry gets a serious academic analysis as a business. IIMA, under the leadership of Professor Tejas Desai, is a introducing a course on film-making. The course is called ‘Introduction to Contemporary Film Industry’ and starts from Dec 23.

Leading lights of Bollywood including Aamir Khan, Madhur Bhandarkar, Sanjay Gadhavi are going to be taking classes and sharing their insights.

Prof Tejas Desai is a PhD in Biostatistics, an innovative thinker and a movie fan!

Article Archive notes the following on Prof Desai:

When he was a sophomore, Tejas Desai, then 19, began as a film projectionist in the US. Like scores of other students, Desai took up the job to support his undergraduation studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The sophomore graduated and went on to do his PhD in bio-statistics from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Back home, Desai joined the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) as an assistant professor, yet the short stint as a film projectionist haunted him and it didn’t help that movies were becoming his favourite pastime. That is when Desai thought he would use films as a tool to teach young management students.

I had the good fortune of meeting Prof Tejas Desai. He said that lot of intellectual studies and analysis happen for new and old industries. But nobody is looking at Bollywood.

    Good thinking!

Well, this course is definitely going to be a blockbuster !
