    Kantara Review: “wooooooaaaav”  Insanely WOW!

    Kantara Review: “wooooooaaaav”  Insanely WOW!

Kantara is a must watch movie! A true cinematic experience that deserves a big screen immersion!

Kantara is an outstanding mesh of visual extravaganza, creative storytelling and mind blowing performances! Full credit to actor director writer Rishabh Shetty for staying true to local milieu & rustic taste while avoiding the temptation to masculinize the movie like the recent southern potboilers.

Kantara brings together diverse threads to create a unique fabric:

    – Human being’s search for peace and sukoon

    – Local beliefs and culture

    – Human greed and nature’s bounty

    – Human rights and rule of law

Technically world-class, sensitive treatment, awesome cinematography and powerful vivid music take us straight to the coastal Karnataka life – the Bhoot Kala festival, the Kambala event, wild boar hunting etc. Daiva’s scream guarantees goosebumps!

The last fifteen minutes have taken the movie to next level with Rishabh’s performance – the climax will keep people talking for a long time!

Kantra – Watch it – The power of cinema that will stay on….

And yes, if you love Kantara, do not forget to watch Tumbadd – one of India’s finest movie! And the one I rate  one notch higher than Kantara!

  • Sri Sathya Sai Heart Hospital : Dil Without Bill  – What a concept! What a living reality!

Sri Sathya Sai Heart Hospital : Dil Without Bill  – What a concept! What a living reality!

One of the blessings of Ignite forum is the opportunity to meet and interact with amazing people. One such wonderful experience was visit to Sri Sathya Sai Heart Hospital – India’s largest paediatric cardiac hospital.

The heart hospital is designed for free treatment for the low-income families – the ones who cannot afford cardiac treatment.

Free? There must be catch – there is our monkey mind speaking! The hospital does not have a cash counter / payments counter! Indeed, it is totally free of cost!

Charitable hospital? Is it any good? The hospital is world-class and can beat any institute hands-down. It again beats the myth of charitable being equated to ordinary or sub-standard.

Is it a religious hospital? No – It serves all people irrespective of race, religion or nationality!

Now that we have broken some myths, let us look at some of its impressive features:

    1. The hospital treats patients at zero cost. Whether it is a simple procedure or complex surgery, all patients are treated free.

    2. The patients can stay as long as they want.

    3. The hospital is in lush-green campus with world-class facilities. Almost 70K Square Yards. 310 beds.

    4. The doctors and para-medical staff stay on the campus. In case of emergency, this is critical in saving a life!

    5. The hospital is self-contained with all other medical departments and units.

    6. The relatives of the patients can stay in the dormitory.

    7. The kitchen is spic and span – the food is amazingly hygienic and good

    8. The hospital runs on complete charity and donations. Not a single paise from the patients.

    9. All donations are through cheque and legal.

    10. The magnificent campus is designed by renowned architect Bimal Patel. A great reference project by itself!

    See it to believe it!

And the most important are the human stories! The biggest impact area is saving lives of people! 20 lakh patients have benefited and more than 20K surgeries have been operated. Often, poor people do not have money to support costly cardiac treatments. In some cases, parents do not take any special effort for saving the life of a child. Neither they can afford spending a fortune on the medical treatment nor they have the means! Often they give up or resign themselves to the fate – consoling themselves or resorting to the fact that they can always have another child – thus not valuing the sick child’s life! So disturbing!  In some cases, family does not provide financial or non-financial support. In all such cases, this hospital is indeed a God-sent answer!

During our visit, we met several young children – hearing their life stories was a moving experience. One of the girls we met, P, wants to be Cardiologist and help the fellow kids in future. She wants to give back to the world – what she got – many times over!

The hospital is winning hearts and blessings by saving their lives and giving them a future! What they cannot pay in money, they pay in their blessings!

The hospital is a perfect example of vision and action in sync! The great idea and vision is implemented with corporate efficiency on one hand and compassionate service on another hand. Hats off to Shri Manoj Bhimani and Prashanti Trust for serving thousands of people with dignity, grace and world-class care.

Satya Sai Heart Hospital’s Managing Trustee Manoj Bhimani & Infostretch Ignite’s Geetanjali Sahni

    Isn’t it great?

Want to help in the great noble cause (Yagna)?

    1. Spread the word – So that everyone who needs the help for cardiac treatment – can get it!

    2. Donate – You can help with donations – every penny counts!

    3. Volunteer – Whether you are a doctor or IT professional or business, volunteer your time and skills!

Sri Sathya Sai Heart Hospital – It is not a hospital, it an indeed a temple of healing! The true religion is serving humanity and this temple is the best example of selfless service!

  • Shakuntala Devi: The Vidya Balan Show! Vidya-Kasam!

Shakuntala Devi: The Vidya Balan Show! Vidya-Kasam!

Shakuntala Devi: The Vidya Balan Show! Vidya-Kasam!

The unraveling of personal life of India’s most famous mathemagician Shakuntal Devi – Who tries to get the mathematical equation of life right – Celebrated career vs motherhood. Why woman cannot have it all?

Shakuntala is a genius whose aim was clear from day one -become a ‘Bada Aadmi’, not a ‘Badi Aurat’! The prodigy’s difficult childhood gives way to the fame and riches of Shakuntala Devi’s ‘human computer’ cult. The movie takes an emotional turn as Shakuntala tries to focus on family and daughter.

Its all about loving your parents – famous words from Karan Johar. But Shakuntala Devi has challenges with her parents as well as with her only child Anupama. The movie spends more time on this, leaving other strands ignored.

It is good that Shakuntala was not presented as photoshopped and Instagram perfect figure. No one likes hagiography !!!

Yet one must not forget that this is one perspective and all heavily fictionalised. True life may remain a Paheli – as the song said!

There has been a discussion on her husband’s homosexuality. Pros and cons of her approach for not sending the girl to school. Yet she should have done a better job – but she was no ordinary lady! Maybe the sheer ambition and storm that she was – helped her to go from an obscure village to a global phenomenon!

Movies help us to discover these characters and ignite discussions to help us discover our true north. Learn both small things like snowflakes and big things like importance of following your passion! And try to avoid their mistakes! And make our own unique path!

The movie is a complete Vidya Balan show. Her powerhouse performance is the life of the movie – Showing all shades of Shakuntala – Genius. Ambitious. Confident. Strong. Independent. Vibrant. Charming. Brave. Powerful. Flawed. Imperfect. Human!

Vidya is ably supported by Sanya Malhotra and others. Strong editing and overall well presented. A good watch!!

  • Lockdown Life: What Lies Ahead!

    Lockdown Life: What Lies Ahead!

The Corona Lockdown brings its own set of conundrums and consequences for our work and life. What is happening around us?

The ‘new normal’ is the most used and overused terms these days. There is indeed a paradigm shift. SARS led to the rise of Chinese e-commerce and Corona will give big fillip to healthcare and overall digitisation. The bigger impact is on the mankind. Human history is a testimony to our infinite capacity to assimilate, learn and adapt. How will our life and work change?

Human beings are in hibernation mode. Hibernation is a normal phenomenon in nature where extended period of inactivity helps to endure adverse conditions. In fact, scientists are exploring how hibernation can help in space travel and other areas. Hibernation is necessary for survival and growth.

The explosion of people exploring creative side and bottled passions is inspiring. Expect a lot of people to discover a new person in themselves leading to new choices and new future. The initial experiments and indulgences will turn into serious soul-fulfilling mission. Many may never go back to the old jobs and professions again.

On the other hand, many people miss the hustle and bustle of their professional lives. The stress and long working hours may have blinded them to the bright side of their demanding careers. Many are finding a much-needed pause in their default ‘mad rush’ lifestyle . Once the initial bliss of relaxed life is fully enjoyed, the same work will be looked with a new fresh pair of eyes. The post-lockdown period will see new zeal, new energy, new insights and new perspectives.

The healthcare, public services, delivery and government officials are working round the clock. The Corona is a war-zone for them – thousands of books and hundreds of years of training would not have prepared them for the current situation. The sheer resilience and real-time thinking is helping them cope with the ever-changing situation. The Corona experience will influence a whole new way of operations and execution in each of these sectors. Predicting and managing pandemics is going to be a new module in their curriculum!

And across all sectors, the rise of digital, contact-less and remote working is inevitable. The degree of digitalisation will vary but the fusion of online and offline world is an irreversible trend. Schools and universities will leverage online learning like never before. Technology will change the healthcare industry with remote diagnosis, contactless monitoring and predictive analytic models.

The workplace engagement is getting redefined. The real substance is taking over those online meetings. Is there a real alignment with the organisation? Is there an identification with the purpose and the vision? Are the people really inspiring? What is the future?

The human relationships are changing as well. People are not used to spending weeks together with their spouses and family. One cannot fake and plan things beyond a few days. The real relationship will speak. Either people will find that their bickering partner is actually a nice person and maybe that is why they got together in the first place. Or they will find discover the futility of inauthentic relationship  and address the elephants and dinosaurs in the locked down room. In either case, true freedom and happiness will emerge. True love will find a way.

The digital brings new challenge for families and kids. The rise of Netflix binge-watching, smartphone stickiness, social media addiction and ‘Everything on Zoom’ is natural. Birthday and anniversaries are being celebrated on Zoom. Families are discovering new activities and ideas to stay connected and sane. Depression and loneliness are the other side of the reality for many families, especially for senior citizens. The simple and basis interactions are curtailed. Some physical and digital connect with constant counselling is the need of the hour. The mindful activities like meditation, painting, reading etc. will need constant encouragement.

Lockdown is indeed brining many interesting challenges. Purpose, positive attitude, high empathy and strong awareness will help us to come out stronger and better on the other side of Corona Lockdown.

    Gujaratilexicon – The Movement’s 15th Year!

  • Pahel – The Infostretch Giving Back Platform

Pahel – The Infostretch Giving Back Platform

A Business That Makes Nothing but Money Is a Poor Business
    – Henry Ford

Infostretch has lived the mantra of ‘giving back’ since inception. As we have grown, so have our ambitions and ability to help. Rutesh and Manish created the CSR vision with the 1% pledge – where Infostretch donates 1% of their staff time, product, profits and equity for charitable causes.

The Infostretch vision took new heights with the inception of Pahel. It is a group of enthusiastic like-minded individuals wanting to make a difference in the immediate environment. Pahel is the Infostretch’s philanthropy platform to help our immediate community and causes. It is not a group to check the box on CSR for Infostretch, but a living testimonial of our belief to give back.

    The Pahel model is:
    A. Community support and service via our active involvement in the causes: Helping schools, tree plantation, menstrual awareness, adopting a village, painting a school, fixing houses in rural areas, cleaning our environmentally sensitive areas, building water coolers in dry areas etc.
    B. Talent support through our services and ideas: Building digital tools, sites, apps, portals, QMetry products, Digital marketing for awareness to prevent lifestyle diseases etc.
    C. Infostretch funding: Supporting right agencies and individuals after our checks on genuine causes.

The following are the major Pahel initiatives of 2019:

    1. Ahaan Learning Centre

The anchor cause of Pahel in India is to provide education and rich experiences to people from the less privileged strata of the society through sports, creativity, drama and other methods.

Ahaan Learning Centre is one of the anchor causes of Pahel. It is a mission to provide education to the less privileged children. The first centre is at Ahmedabad’s Shivranjani area – where kids who were begging at traffic signals and loitering have been given an opportunity to transform lives. The children are from streets and have had no previous exposure to the values and lives others live. In collaboration with our partner NGO Shwaas, Pahel is making a difference via education and creative activities at the centre.

It has been a challenging project. The start was slow…Initially, it was a challenge to grab the attention of these kids but thanks to creative ideas, firm determination, hard work and zeal, a bond was created with the kids. Young ones started showing up daily. Habits changed. Interest in education and good live arose. The impact goes beyond the basic learning. After literally being invisible and having zero exposure to the outside world, the kids are changing, coming out of their shell and are having a positive attitude towards life.

Ahaan activities are integrated with Infoneers’ life at Infostretch. We have created a planned calendar for activities on Thursdays – where many Infoneers have spent hundreds of hours with these children and shared their amazing experience at the centre. They play games, sing songs, watch videos etc. and inspire them. Indeed, dreams and dedication are a powerful combination!

Ahaan means the first ray of light and we plan to initiate a lot of new light in the lives of more children though more Ahaan centres in the upcoming days.

    2. Happy Periods

The biggest plans have to be executed on ground. India is on a mission to create awareness about menstrual health. The message of Prime Minister, Bollywood Actors & Celebrities has created great awareness. The last mile is equally important.

Pahel Team has taken the initiative called ‘Happy Periods’ to create menstrual awareness in the fringe schools – where girls from less privileged background are present. Happy Periods workshop is a wonderful program that explains the complex topic in a fun way. Pahel Team has taken the idea further with creation of Happy Period Box and Guide – which are distributed free in each awareness session. The Happy Periods program has been conducted in multiple schools so far.

The Happy Periods campaign has met with an overwhelming response from the students. The format of the workshop facilitates the learning in a fun way where kids enjoyed every minute of the workshop as opposed to the traditional format of the workshop which is perceived as a boring ‘lecture’. The interactive workshop provides an opportunity for the girls to ask questions without any hesitation in a very friendly environment – which they took complete advantage of! The Instructors were treated like superstars and were requested to take selfies by most girls. The feedback from girls and seniors has been consistently positive and overwhelming.

The social networking sites helped remote Gujarat villages observe the success of this campaign which resulted in many of them requesting the Pahel team to visit their villages and run such campaigns in their villages. The Pahel team already planned 5 campaigns in the remote villages of Gujarat. The holistic ‘Happy Period’ campaign framework by the Pahel team which includes workshop, fun games, Happy Period Kit and a guide is such a unique way of handling such a sensitive topic that it has been invited to run in the USA too.

    3. Pahel Movember Movement!

Pahel brought the international Movember campaign to Infostretch – to create awareness around Men’s health issues. Men’s health issues of cancer, mental health and other challenges was the focus. The NoShaveMoovement was a runaway hit! It was christened as Mo-Ment by our CEO Rutesh Shah. The campaign was truly global. In spite of being a ground zero for the campaign, Infostretch Ahmedabad received tough competition from other Infostretch offices. The headquarter in Santa Clara was one of the most enthusiastic bunch. Infostretch East-coast also participated in wholeheartedly. Even the fairly new offices like Infostretch Bangalore were equally enthusiastic. Infostretch Pune maintained their enthusiasm throughout the month and was competing for the most enthusiastic team with Ahmedabad and Santa Clara.

More than 120 Infoneers from all the offices participated in the campaign and regularly shared their creative posts on yammer as well as on external social. On the qualitative side, Infoneers have never seen such creative and quality fun posts that playfully delivered serious messages. And, on the quantitative side, Infoneers, in the last month alone, posted more than 300 messages that were read for around 75,000 times and were liked around 3000 times by the Infoneers. Throughout the month more than 700 Infoneers were active on the campaign.

This was the campaign that truly brought the whole Infostretch family together – regardless of the location or the gender. One of the most important factors for the success of the campaign is the lively participation of female Infoneers.

    4. Navrachit Learning Centre

Navrachit Learning Centre is a slum school for the children of construction workers. Pahel is working with the school for almost two years. Located behind the YMCA stadium, Ahmedabad, this school educates around 50+ students who have never seen the gate of any school.

Pahel has been conducting different activities on bi-weekly bases in addition to sponsoring this school financially. Every alternate Thursday volunteering Infoneers visit this school with a couple of Pahel members and do different fun activities like Zumba, games. During Diwali, new clothes have been provided to the children and toy distribution is arranged.

Pahel has helped in infrastructure development and provided constant guidance. From a makeshift school with zero hygiene facilities and leaking walls, the schools is a proper shed with AC and lights with hygiene and all other necessary facilities.

    5. Shwas Collaboration

Pahel is delighted to collaborate with Shwas for driving several causes for our kids and young champions.

Shwas and Pahel are currently working on the following causes:
    – Enrichment of education experience for less privilege kids through sports coaching and computer training
    – Driving good healthcare awareness through distribution of health-sanitation kits and preventive medical check-up.
    – Ongoing interaction with kids through participation in Infostretch corporate activities, company visits etc.
    – Promote empowerment through vocational training for bright kids
    – Platform for showcasing skills and talents through exhibitions, events etc.

Shwas kids are wedded into the Infostretch eco-system. They participate in the ICL cricket team matches. The kids’ designed paintings are given as prizes for the tournament winners. Even foreign customers visiting Infostretch, are gifted special paintings designed by the kids.

    6. Moodcafe

Infostretch Pahel has helped a mental health care startup with our ideas and talent in form of our service support. Moodcafe, the supported startup, has got endorsement of CM of Gujarat Vijay Rupani. The startup is also the only Indian startup to be featured in Silicon Valley in SVB Demo Day in Jan 2019 in USA.

Moodcafe is a mental health based startup by alumni of IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Roorkee that aims to bring a new-age empathetic caring approach to mental health and well being by leveraging best practices and emerging research-driven trends of psychology, counselling, therapies, artificial intelligence and innovative reach out strategies

    7. Additional Activities:

During the last few months, a lot of activities have happened including the following:
    – Tree Plantation – More than hundreds of trees planted at Ahmedabad and Pune
    – Special Tree Plantation drive with Deloitte
    – Screening of special play for children – Mowgli Tunak Tum Tum
    – Buttermilk distribution at construction sites
    – Infrastructure aid to multiple less privileged school sites
    – Diwali celebrations with children
    – Spending time and caring for old age, women and mental health children
    – Collection of funds for Kerala Floods and India Army – Infostretch matched the contribution of Infoneer donations.

What makes Pahel a special movement is the top executive support, committed participation of team members, integration with Infostretch daily life, going beyond monetary contribution to causes, careful curation of causes and full 360 degree integration of causes.

The multiple acts of sharing and caring showcase what these Infoneers are made up of! And what a great value system they bring to the table! Pahel team members – always say – Its our job to keep trying (Koshish Karna hamaara kaam hai!)

  • Suicide Is Not The Answer

    Suicide Is Not The Answer

Shocked and saddened by the suicide of V G Siddhartha – cannot believe it!

Siddhartha founded the Cafe Coffee Day chain and changed the way India drank coffee. He created thousands of jobs, a great brand and shared wealth. He also backed Mindtree and underwrote Infosys shares. He made other IT investments and gave support to the founders.

Why did he do this? We will never know the reasons. He came from a strong family, had great political and business connections. He was a successful entrepreneur. There are talks about the pressure of PE investor, Income Tax harassment and Debt woes. But an entrepreneur knows all such challenges – at what point did it really get too much? Or was there something else?

It is impossible for us to judge what he must be going through. No one can imagine his situation.

My point is simple….Suicide is not the answer. Life is a gift. Setbacks give way to sunshine. Today’s problems will go away.

Suicide means end of a great talent and human potential. It means failure of the human spirit. It leaves behind emotional scars for family and friends for life – a guilt that they could not do enough.

And yes, no individual nor any organisation is worth giving up our live for.

When one feels low, please talk to friends. Listen to music – a cure for everything. Spend time with nature. Or help others – world is full of more unfortunate people and helpless situations than us – help others. Instead of giving up life, help others live a good life and one could find our own meaning of life.

Reach out fo self-care group, suicide prevention helplines like Sneha, Parivartan etc.. Organizations like Moodcafe, White Swan Foundation, Live Love Laugh Foundation, MPower Minds can help as well.

Choose life. Suicide is not the answer. This too shall pass.
