I was surfing for some information and I came across one of my old presentations on Presentation Skills. One of my subordinates had uploaded it on the net for the benefit of all. I was glad and realized that the principles remain true.

These days, I have already started getting emails, reports and feeds for The Top 2009 List, The Best of 2009, Things To Watch Out In 2010. I think I also supported one such post – Best Smartphones. Not to forget, that the title of this piece 🙂
But what counts? Being First or Being The Best? Breaking News or Insightful Detailed Analysis ? I think the answer is obvious!

I read an interesting post by Eric Garner on Ticked by Life. Eric mentions that : Gratitude is one of the most powerful forces in the universe. Gratitude stops you taking your life for granted and helps you realize how many good things you have in your life. Gratitude is a spiritual act because it acknowledges that the origin of all good things is a source outside ourselves.
The above observation is very correct. Gratitude Attitude is a hallmark of good human being. A person who acknowledges help and support, preserves old relationships and secures new friends. The person who helped also feels rewarded for his contribution and would help again in the future. Of course, relationships are interdependent. Use every opportunity to help back. Interdependence is a higher value than independence.
Thank you, small gifts, pat are all powerful gestures ! They need to be expressed in right manner and with 100% authenticity.
King of Good Times Vijay Mallya Wins Gandhi’s Prize Memorabilia. Gandhians will be shocked but it is fair. He has made the bid and won it legally. Do not blame his wealth to his liqour – the country allows people to produce, sell and drink it.
Blame the people from whom this memorabilia went. It was with some custodians who did not do their duty.

Magnet Technologies is in hiring mode ! I spend a substantial amount of time on interviews. Every interview is an investment as well as an important conversation.
So how do we find the right person for the job? How do we find out the smart guy who is faking it? How do we find the right talent who is not good in English but is a Mozart in disguise?
Jessica Stillman of BNET Blog mentions that the most important interview question is :

The blog mentions the following:
“Understand a person’s obsessions and you will understand her natural motivation,” Bregman asserts. Of course what to look for when hiring a receptionist is no where near as clear cut as what to look for when hiring a pilot, but Bregman claims that the principle holds no matter what sort of job you are hiring for. Receptionists need to be outgoing, so passionate readers who spend hours upon hours alone will probably not excel in the position, though they won’t necessarily be terrible at it. But if a potential receptionist is a frequent hostess and loves to throw parties, you might just have found your star.
Good observation. It follows the often quoted idea – Do what you love to do, and you will never have to work again in life. From interviewer’s perspective, it gives an idea of person’s natural personality.
Some believe the most important question is : Why should we hire you?

Going further towards basics, Sigmund Freud said that man is driven by only two things: Power and Sex.

Pratik Shah forwarded me an PPS on Tips for Work during Recession. I found it quite good and interesting. In fact, these tips work for all times – boom or bust ! If these skills had been followed during boom, the bust would have been avoided.
The fundamentals always remain eternal – that is why they are called fundamentals. But, during boom, everyone is in party and we forget these.
